Matariki

Hi bloggers, a couple of weeks ago it was the startof Matariki. Matariki is a cluster of stars, also known as The Seven Sisters.  Matariki this year was held on the 15th of June and it will be held on the 10th of June in 2019. For Moari people it is called the start of a new year. On Matariki people wake up early and have breakfast then go out side to see the stars go past. On Matariki my family wake up early and go to my cousins house to have a really yummy breakfast, then we watch the stars and also head down to the beach for the day. Who celebrates Matariki? Tribes celebrate Matariki when it is first seen. Celebrations last up to 3 days each year. Here are some photos.

STUDENT LED TOOLKITS Hi bloggers, on Tuesday a group of 24 students went out to represent Waikowhai Primary at Christ King Catholic School, for the Student Led toolkits. Many schools from Mount Roskill, like Wesley Primary and Intermediate, Hay Park and New Windsor, were there as well. Student Led Toolkits are all about digital learning with other Ako Hiko schools. When it was time to eat we sat on the steps and ate our lunch, then we got to play. In the student led toolkits there were three sessions on e of them, was tour builder which was when we had to pick a place or a contry, and  write about it. After all that fun it was time to leave. Thanks to Gerhard for helping make this day happen and Christ the King for letting us use their school.  Here are some photos of us when we got there  Here is  a video of us using the spero robots  Blog you later πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ŽπŸ’¦

Geomtric Art

Hi, bloggers for the last couple of weeks we have been working on some art for our art exhibition. The art has been all about endemic animlas and birds to New Zeland.   The materials we used were:  Paper ▢  Acrylic paint ✏ Paint brushes  πŸ–Œ Before getting started we had to pick an animal that we wanted to draw.  Then we found some images of the animal that we picked and  started sketching them in our art books.  After that we  picked one of the images and insreted it on to a google drawing, then we used some tools like Polyline and Scrible to trace the image.   When we finshed tracing the image we got a basic outline of the bird or animal that we were doing.   Then we primed our piece of papper. Primed means put on an undercoat for our background. After priming we strted drawing the image  on.    Then we ruled up some geomtric shapes to put in it.  After that we got to the messy part... p...

TiriTiri matanig island trip

Hi, bloggers last  Thursday, the senior school went on a trip to Tiritiri Matangi Island. The island is made up of animals and birds that are n ative, e ndemic and introduced.   We took the bus to Auckland Habour then walked to the ferry and got on, but before that we had to scrub our shoes because they don't want any pests and insects on the island like beetles, slugs, cockroaches and maggots.  When we got on the ferry we got a speech by the capatin telling us about what we are going to do. Then we got to eat morning tea. After that groups started going to the top of the ferry to have a look. We stopped at some different islands to pick up people, then we were off to Tiritiri. When we got to Tiritiri we sat in our groups, then a lady from the island  talked about how to take care of the island and how we could show respect to the animls and birds there. Then after that we got to go exploring - Yah! We saw many diffrent birds like Stitch bird, Tui, Robin and a ...
