Hi bloggers, a couple of weeks ago it was the startof Matariki. Matariki is a cluster of stars, also known as The Seven Sisters. Matariki this year was held on the 15th of June and it will be held on the 10th of June in 2019. For Moari people it is called the start of a new year. On Matariki people wake up early and have breakfast then go out side to see the stars go past. On Matariki my family wake up early and go to my cousins house to have a really yummy breakfast, then we watch the stars and also head down to the beach for the day. Who celebrates Matariki? Tribes celebrate Matariki when it is first seen. Celebrations last up to 3 days each year. Here are some photos.
Today's activity for the summer learning journey is finding out three top facts about New Zealand on the Tourism New Zealand site. My first facts about New Zealand is, New Zealand is part of the pacific rim of fire and it's most active volcano is Mount Ruapehu , which is found in the middle of the North Island . Did you know that? The Auckland sky tower is the tallest freestanding structure in the southern hemisphere, standing at 328 meters high. Last fact about New Zealand that I found interesting was 30% of the country is forest. So there must be a lot of trees then. CAN YOU FIND OUT SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT NEW ZEALAND?
